Taryn moved out. I haven’t cried yet because it was a soft move. She moved to Wisconsin with her boyfriend Wolfgang. She is spending this week looking for a job and preparing to start her online masters program through IUPUI. You may ask why it’s a soft move. She just packed Lucy (the white Subaru Crosstrek) and left. They will get their bigger apartment later this month, so I will move all her big stuff then, when I will also be moving the other two back to college. Yay me! For now, it just feels like she is visiting Wolf, which she does with great frequency. There is still plenty of time for me to cry later. This part of the move doesn’t really count.
The biggest problem with this move is the loss of a fantastic car. As long as she is a student, she can use our car. After she is done with school, we will discuss her car options. Travis didn’t want to lose Lucy. I did point out that maybe he should consider the options, with his girl Taryn commuting to a job in Madison, Wisconsin, which is known to have a bunch of snow. He conceded, because, of course, I was right. Lately, we are in car limbo. Tessa went on vacation with her boyfriend, Nick’s family. She had to take Bert to Indianapolis because her car, Goff, is in the shop this week getting new back brake calipers. We usually handle the brakes ourselves, but this time we had to take the loss. A couple weeks ago we had a really fun night filled with four letter words and flashlights, as we ran out of daylight. The rear driver’s side brake caliper was frozen and we couldn’t get the new brake pad on it. The other side was fine. After hours of fun wrestling with this, I left at midnight, because it was easy to see we couldn’t unfreeze the caliper. Tessa and Travis stayed at it until 1am, before putting the old brake pad back on and making an appointment at the shop. Meanwhile, Travis’ car was hit with a construction sign on the highway and needs about $3700 in repairs. It’s driveable at least. And Bert’s exhaust pipe was hanging. No problem. The night before Tessa left in Bert, Travis used some plumbing hose clamps and it’s fixed up right pretty now. Who doesn’t use plumbing parts on a car exhaust system? We live in Indiana now. All bets are off.
Let me give you the car break down:
Car 1: Trav’s 2018 Subaru Impreza – going into the shop later in August when the parts come in.
Car 2: Lucy – 2018 Subaru Crosstrek – Now resides with Taryn in Wisconsin.
Car 3: Bert – 2014 Nissan Armada – Driving around with hose clamps holding the exhaust system to keep it from dragging on the ground. Going into the shop next week.
Car 4: Goff – 2003 Honda Accord – In the shop right now. Hopefully there are no surprises.
Car 5: 2004 Acura TSX (with over 215,000 miles) – It has no radio, no AC, but runs great. Was in the shop earlier this summer for the VSA light. May be the best car we have ever owned.
I really hope there is an end in sight to the car drama. It hasn’t caused a divorce or murder yet, but there’s still time. Have a great week everyone! Next week, we return to school, and I go back to work. It’s early August, but the school summer is coming to a close. That’s a topic for another day. Have a great week everyone!
