Sisters

Last weekend was my sister/sister-in-law weekend. I am changing the name of the weekend to Sisters Weekend though, because all of my sisters-in-law have been in the family over 20 years, so they are now sisters by choice. My brothers married well. It was one of our biggest attendance years, with ten of the twelve being there for at least part of the time. We had all six sisters Sunday. The sisters-in-law made us take a picture of just the sisters. I think that they were trying to force some delineation, but I don’t accept that. We’re all in this together.

We have been renting the same house in Michigan two weekends after Labor Day since 1999. We skipped one year for a family wedding. I think that’s the only time we skipped. The move to Indiana has me sometimes feeling disconnected from my family, so I really look forward to this weekend. When in Lisle, I lived in the “Main House” since I bought my parents’ house, which was the house we grew up in. At first, everyone, and I mean everyone, had a key, so you literally never knew who would be in your kitchen when you got up in the morning. That was a little too much, even for me. So, we changed the front door, since we couldn’t change the lock on the door with the handle in the middle of the door. I suppose we could have retumbled it, but that didn’t feel adequate. And, really, who wants a door with a handle in the middle? Anyway, I went from that reality to being over an hour away. No surprise visitors in my kitchen looking for coffee in the morning. So, I needed to reconnect. I also didn’t mind the time away from the house with projects that never end.

I thought I would finish an entire book last weekend. HA! The problem is that I want to do everything: long walks, stretching on the beach, pickle ball, swimming (yes, we swam in Lake Michigan…brrrr), icecream. When we had down time, I usually nodded off. I came home feeling great. I have an amazing family!! Now, it’s trivia time. I used a picture that has all six sisters and four sisters-in-law. Which are the sisters? Sorry Gayle, I had to use the picture from after you left to get all the sisters in.

This week, let’s remember to do something that recharges your soul. I can check that off already.
