I’ve gotten into a bad habit lately that is robbing my sleep. After work, I come home and continue to work at the dining room table (that’s not the bad habit). My later evening efficiency is questionable at best, as I am easily distracted. After some time of completing limited work, I crawl onto the couch and lay my head on Travis’s lap, since he is usually reading something medical looking on his laptop. Lately, Travis has had a fire going. And I fall into a deep slumber. At some point, Travis moves to bed. He knows better than to try to rouse a sleeping Jo (years of experience), so he puts a pillow under my head and goes to bed. In a couple hours, I wake up and move to bed, where I lay awake for HOURS, leaving me exhausted the next day. And I haven’t been working out because I sleep through it, which has me feeling like a marshmallow, even if I’m not gaining weight. The sleeping mallow Jo.
Every night, I promise that I will move to bed when Travis does. Every night, I sleep through the move. I can’t break the cycle. Travis won’t participate in any remediation, because he likes all his body parts fully intact… and I can be quite crabby when roused from an unintentional nap. This leaves me to my own devices, which are clearly lacking.
Some people smoke, some drink, some do both. I nap in the late evening. So what’s your poison that’s robbing sleep? I don’t think anyone is getting enough sleep. Certainly, my students aren’t, because they try to sleep in my class. Maybe I should just sit in a desk next to a slumbering student and catch up on sleep during class. Hmmm…
Have a great week everyone! I’m grabbing some coffee!
