Weizeorick weddings are a unique beast. They are large affairs that extend way into the night. This past weekend was the first time a full sized Weizeorick wedding was done in a backyard. It was a huge backyard, but still. Everything was gorgeous and amazing, but WOW, what a ton of work and logistics. Aside from being hot, the weather cooperated. And a little heat wasn’t going to stop the Weizeoricks from acting a little crazy.
We are mostly normal people, if you count a large-scale knockout basketball game in dresses and suits, and a human pyramid in the grass… at a wedding… normal. These things just happen. And I took third in the first and biggest knockout game. I was actually planning to stay out of the pyramid, since they were doing a co-ed pyramid, so I figured there were plenty of guys to look stupid. But then, the collective stupidity decided to do a female only pyramid, and I was recruited. Somehow, I ended up being bottom middle with my niece, Anna, and truth be told, it wasn’t that bad. I’m glad that there were no pictures from behind the pyramid, because dresses aren’t made for that kind of wear… just saying. Pyramids are typically a beach affair, and the view from the back at the beach isn’t much better. We can’t be concerned about all those minor details though.
The wedding went off in grand fashion. Chris and Emily have jetted off on their honeymoon. Due to work schedules and other commitments, we only had Travis, Trent, and me to represent the Haldeman wing of the family at the wedding. Since the wedding was in Michigan, we thought we would stop by our friend’s (Bee and Jeff) Michigan cottage on the way home on Sunday. The problem is that Trent had 2 ½ more hours to drive than us to get home to Indy, and he didn’t want to stay the whole day. No problem! We drop his car off on the way to the wedding Saturday morning (along with the keys and Travis’ guitar) and we continue on together to the Ann Arbor area. Sounds like a perfect plan.
It actually was going to work great! On Sunday, after saying goodbye to family in the hotel lobby, we continued on to Bee and Jeff’s. We visited throughout the day. Trent even stayed for dinner before heading out the door. Somewhere during the transfer of his stuff from our car to his, he ended up leaving Michigan with our car keys. UGH! Fortunately, he noticed it before he passed by Valparaiso. So, I called up Tayden and guilted him into doing the right thing, which was to drive the keys back up to Union Pier for us, so Trent could continue his drive home.
We had to pick between stressors about this particular plan. Stress one is that the Acura, with 215,000 miles on it, hasn’t been driven on the highway in quite a while. We call it the zip code car. It stays local. And Michigan isn’t local. Stress two is having Tayden drive Bert. Tayden hasn’t driven Bert since he got his license. Perhaps having him drive a HUGE vehicle on the highway at night is not the time you want to reintroduce him to Bert. But those were the vehicles available. I hate choices like this. Tayden picked the Acura. He also convinced his buddy, Hunter, to join him.
Of course, the VSA light went on at some point in the ride. That is the Vehicle Stability Assist system. Fortunately, it was dry, and overall good driving conditions, so it’s okay to drive with this light on (I googled it), but still. Tayden didn’t even want to go on the trip! Travis clamped something when they got to Michigan, which turned off the light, but it went back on about half way home. When we got off the highway, I made us switch cars, even though everything I read said that the VSA kicks in in bad driving conditions. So, at a random gas station, we were transferring all our dress clothes and luggage into Tayden’s messy car. Travis also laid under the car to re-clamp whatever it was that he was clamping. The light went back on anyway, so the clamp thingy didn’t work. If ever I was wondering where all the missing water bottles have gone, they are littered all over the floor of Tayden’s car. I’m not even sure what was in the trunk, except the samurai sword that I told him to remove a year ago. Weird people have weird stuff.
Hunter wins friend of the year for agreeing to go to Michigan in an antique vehicle at 9pm. Fortunately, it was cool out, since the Acura’s AC died years ago. For his trouble, he got Taco Bell. Cheapest date ever! And I have an appointment to get the VSA looked at. Also, Travis always tells me to grab the second set of keys for whatever car we are driving when we leave town. I usually grab them, but roll my eyes since we are going to be together the entire time, so why would I need them. In fact, the extra keys have been difficult in the past since cars don’t like to lock with the keys in them (which is where I want to leave the keys). From now on, I will grab the extra keys.
Have a great week everyone! My blog site is fixed, but Go Daddy is up-charging everything, so I may need to find a new host. Oh, and Emily (the bride) jumped right on top of one pyramid, even after the previous one collapsed (causing one head plant), so she fits right in with our crazy!
