The week started amazing. On Thursday, we got a new boat. I keep telling Travis that I am checking this off for his mid-life crisis. No fast cars or women for him. He got a boat. He sold a lakehouse, gave away a non-working jet ski, traded in another boat, and bought a new boat. So Thursday, we spent the afternoon (we worked half days or took it off, except Trent who had to work all day) enjoying our new boat. It was amazing. Putting the cover on the boat took a couple texts with the sales guy and a couple days of doing it wrong, but I eventually got it. And here’s how I learned the right way to put the cover on.
Sunday night it stormed and the rain was coming down. I woke up with a gasp just before 2am. I must have startled a lot because Travis awoke and he can sleep through anything. He asked what was wrong. I told him I had a vivid dream that our boat was floating away. He loves this boat so much that he said, “I will go check on it.” It was just a dream, so I laid back down. Then thoughts of Travis climbing around the boat in the dark and possibly slipping, thunking his head, and drowning unconscious in the dark, night lake water made me jump up again. His life insurance policy isn’t THAT big. I quickly saw his flashlight bopping up the dark yard though, so I laid back down again. Then, he came in and said, “Jo, I need your help.” Immediately the dream visions of the boat come back into my head, no matter how unlikely. Turns out, I put the cover on wrong and the water was pooling in the cover and threatening to tear it. So, I get up, and go with him to the boat, grabbing Tessa on the way, since my night owl was still up. Travis brought a medial type tube that is typically used in breathing treatments and begins siphoning off the water at the strength of a strong pee. With all the patience that my 2am self could muster, I say, “That’s your big solution?” He says, with all the patience he could muster, “You have a better one?” Now, this is gallons of water. I actually laughed and replied, “Well, I don’t feel like standing here until 4am, so yes, I have a better one.” I walked over to the canoe and grabbed the bucket that I knew was under it, climbed up on the back of the boat and began bailing. Sleepy Tessa was stuck holding the flashlights for us, attracting all the bugs to her. Travis didn’t say it, but he knew my idea was better.
When it was empty, we raised the tower so we could hook the cover on it to tent it. I had to slip my hand into the boat to find the pin that secures the tower. There was no way I was undoing and redoing the entire cover at that time of night in the dark, when I had struggled with it, and done it wrong, in broad daylight. We got it done and were walking in the house at 2:30am. At that point, we see Tayden at the kitchen table. Slacker! Travis declared, “Well I’m not tired at all.” Since there were four of us, we organized a game of Euchre… because that’s what people do at 2:30am on a work night. I don’t remember what time we went to bed, but I was tired Monday.
One more random quick addition for today. Tayden fed the dogs one evening. Roscoe was very excited, as usual, and jumped and bumped Tayden’s hand holding his full food bowl. Some combination of wet and dry food came out on the carpet. Roscoe quickly investigated, but continued to follow Tayden, because Tayden still had the motherload. Being the great kiddo that he is, Tayden cleaned up the food, using carpet cleaner. Later that night, while Roscoe was experiencing diarrhea, Tayden discovered that Roscoe had eaten part of the carpet. I’m sure the treated fibers and carpet cleaner were great for a twelve year old dog’s gut. So, now we have a hole in the carpet. Actually, two small holes… in our 1 year old carpet.
Have a great week everyone!
